About Captain Stan's Smokehouse

Nestled in the quaint town of Woodbine, Georgia, Captain Stan's Smokehouse offers a smoky retreat that's hard to resist. This unassuming spot at 700 Bedell Ave draws in both locals and travelers in search of authentic barbecue with a southern twist. The welcoming, laid-back atmosphere immediately signals to guests that this is a place where good food and great conversation come together. It’s the kind of place where the rhythm of live music often mingles with the mouthwatering aroma of hickory smoke.

The menu at Captain Stan’s is nothing short of a carnivore's dream. Diners are met with a selection of slow-cooked ribs, tender brisket, and pulled pork, all boasting a flavor profile honed by years of perfecting the craft. Plate in hand, one soon discovers that the sides here are not merely an afterthought. The traditional offerings of coleslaw and baked beans compete for attention with more inventive choices, like the jalapeño cornbread that packs just the right amount of kick.

It’s the brisket, however, that often becomes the subject of enthusiastic dining room whispers. Melt-in-the-mouth tender, it is celebrated by visitors who have journeyed far and wide. A surprise hit, though, is the smoked turkey, which somehow manages to be both delicate and robust in flavor. Adding to the experience is a range of house-made sauces catering to varied palates—from tangy mustard to a sweet BBQ glaze that has patrons licking their fingers long after the plate is cleared.

Reviews echo the sentiment of satisfied bellies and happy hearts. Visitors rave not only about the food but also about the warm, friendly service that makes everyone feel like a regular. The charming decor, featuring relics and memorabilia that seems to tell their own stories, feels like slipping into a favorite worn-in leather jacket.

Conveniently located near the highway, this hidden gem is easy to overlook by those just passing through. Yet, time and again, Captain Stan’s establishes itself as a destination rather than a pit-stop. Consistent five-star reviews highlight both the unwavering quality of the barbecue and the sense of homecoming visitors feel each time they enter. In a region dotted with smokehouses, Captain Stan's stands out as both a flavorful journey and a comforting retreat. No wonder it ends up on the must-visit list for barbecue enthusiasts from near and far.

We decided to try something different from the usual gas station stops on a road trip. This was a treat. The outdoor area was pleasantly cool in the shade, had a fun music playlist and the staff was great. A great vibe. Worth the stop!

Not gonna lie, when my wife suggested this, I wasn't sure it was even a restaurant. But if you made your way into the fenced off out door area, you will experience a really good lunch or dinner. The food was great, the service was spot on, and I am so glad my wife found this place

My son and I along with some friends, were taking the back roads home from Daytona to Charleston, South Carolina, and it felt like we were on a road to nowhere as we searched for a place to eat. Not only did we find a place, we found a genuine gem tucked away along a quiet stretch of countryside. The food was excellent, the atmosphere warm and welcoming, and in the short time we were there we met several genuinely interesting people. A memorable stop we won’t forget. .

Had a great visit at Captain Stan’s Smokehouse today! The loaded baked potato was so good — hot, fresh, and piled high with toppings. The service was just as amazing. The cashier was super sweet and even let my toddler have the flower from the counter, which totally made their day. Little moments like that mean so much! Good food, friendly people, and a great experience. We’ll definitely be coming back! 😊

Stopped by this spot on our drive down to Florida and loved it! Ribs were HUGE and flavorful. All the BBQ sauces were delicious. We enjoyed the baked beans, too. Service was friendly and quick. Looks like it would be a lot of fun for drinks on the weekend too. Will be back on our next road trip 😀

What else do you do when it rains all day on Jekyll? Take a little road trip south to find BBQ and moonshine, what else? This place came up while looking for restaurants and I convinced our travel partners to make the trek. When we pulled up, folk weren’t sure we were at the right place. Upon entering and being greeted by the server we soon became more comfortable. What an awesome experience. Best BBQ I’ve had in a long time. Our server was excellent and we had a great time. Make the trek and enjoy!!!

This is a little hole in the wall place that is really good. Outdoor seating it was hot, but they had shade and tons of fans. The food was good. If you leave hungry, it's your own fault. Price was worth it, not expensive at all! Great place we will be back again.
